Is YouTube Kids safe for children?

I’m considering letting my child use YouTube Kids, but I want to make sure it’s actually safe before allowing it. Is YouTube Kids really filtered well enough for younger viewers, or do inappropriate videos still slip through? How reliable are the parental controls in YouTube Kids, and can parents fully customise what their child watches? I’d love to hear real experiences about YouTube Kids before making a decision.

Yes — YouTube Kids is designed to be safer than regular YouTube for children. It uses filters, age-based content, and parental controls to limit videos to kid-appropriate topics. Parents can set screen time limits and block channels. However, no system is perfect, so adults should still supervise viewing and adjust settings for their child’s age and maturity.

While YouTube Kids does have some parental control features, it's essential to monitor your child's usage closely. The app's algorithm may not always block mature content, and ads can still be present. Set up restricted profiles, use the timer, and have open conversations with your child about online safety.

I have to agree with some of the concerns raised about YouTube Kids being a safe environment for children, despite its attempts to provide a child-friendly experience. While it does filter out explicit content, it can still expose kids to ads and other videos that may not be suitable for their age group, especially if they have access to the app's free mode.

YouTube Kids is designed to be safer for children, offering filtered videos and parental controls. While it reduces inappropriate content, no app is 100% safe. Parents should still set limits, review settings, and watch with kids to ensure appropriate viewing and a positive experience.
