My child’s iPhone app sometimes freezes or stops responding, and I’m not sure how to fix it. Can someone explain how to force close an app on iPhone in a simple way? I’d also like to know when it’s necessary to do this and if it helps improve performance.

"I've found the easiest way to force close an app on iPhone is to double-click the Home button (or swipe up on recent apps for newer models). This will open a list of your apps. Swipe left on the one you want to close and tap 'Remove'. Simple as that!"

Only force close apps when they freeze or misbehave—iPhones manage background apps automatically, so frequent closing isn’t necessary.

To force close an app on an iPhone, swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause in the middle (or double-press the Home button on older models). This opens the app switcher. Find the app you want, then swipe it up and off the screen to close it.

To force close an app on iPhone, swipe up from bottom and pause to open App Switcher. Find the app and swipe it upward off screen. On older iPhones, double-click Home button, then swipe app up to close it completely.

On modern iPhones, swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause to open the app switcher. Find the app you want to close by swiping left or right. Then swipe the app’s preview upward to force close it. On older models with a Home button, double-press the button to access the switcher, then swipe up on the app.

Want to force close an app on iPhone? First, unlock your iPhone. If the phone does not have a Home button, for you, opening the app switcher is done simply by swiping your finger up from the bottom of the screen and then pausing in the middle. Those models which have a Home button, open the app switcher by double-pressing the Home button. The app switcher will reveal all the recently used apps as cards. Locate the app you'd like to close and then swipe its preview up until it has completely gone out of view. That's a force close of the app. If you'd like to reopen it from the Home Screen after, you can do that to fix freezing, crashing, or performance problems.

  1. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause in the middle.
  2. The app switcher will appear.
  3. Find the app you want to close.
  4. Swipe the app preview upward to force close it.

To force close an app on an iPhone, first open the app switcher—on newer models, swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause in the middle, while on older models with a Home button, double-press the Home button. Once you see all your open apps, swipe left or right to find the app you want to close, then swipe its preview upward off the screen. This will force the app to shut down

To force close an app on an iPhone, access the multitasking view by either swiping up from the bottom and holding (on newer models) or double-clicking the Home button (on older ones). This will display all recently used apps as cards; simply locate the app that’s not responding and swipe its card upward until it disappears. This action completely closes the app in the background and can help fix minor glitches or freezing issues.
