How to see unsent messages on iPhone?

Hi everyone, I recently noticed that someone unsent a message in my chats on my iPhone, and now I’m curious if there’s any way to see unsent messages on iPhone after they’ve been deleted. I’m using iPhone with iMessage, and I’m not sure if there’s any built-in feature or trick to recover those messages.
Are there any methods, apps, or settings that can help view unsent or deleted messages? Or is it completely impossible once they’re removed? Would appreciate any guidance!

On an iPhone, you generally can’t see unsent messages once they’re deleted or unsent (like in Messages or apps like WhatsApp).

Tip:
  • Check notifications or backup (iCloud/iTunes)—you might recover them there
  • Some third-party apps claim recovery, but they’re not always reliable
Once unsent, messages are usually gone.

You can’t directly see unsent messages on an iPhone once they’re deleted or unsent. However, you can check Messages → Edit → Show Recently Deleted for messages deleted in the last 30 days, or restore from an iCloud/iTunes backup made before the message was removed. Some third-party recovery tools also claim to retrieve deleted texts, but results aren’t guaranteed. If the message was “unsent” via iMessage, it’s permanently gone.

You can’t see unsent messages on Apple Messages.
  • Undo Send deletes the message for both people
  • You may only see Message was unsent
  • No way to recover the original text

On an iPhone, unsent messages usually stay in the Messages app text box or in a Drafts folder if the app supports it. If a message failed to send, a red exclamation mark appears next to it, letting you retry. In most cases, once the app is closed or the phone restarts, unsent messages may be lost.

On an iPhone, you generally can’t see unsent messages after deletion. You may check notifications, backups, or other devices, but once fully removed, they’re usually unrecoverable.

In general, it's impossible to locate unsent texts on an iPhone if they have been deleted, especially in iMessage,e where the "Undo Send" option deletes the message in the discussion for both parties. However, you can still look at the original text if you received a notificationpreview ofn it in the Notification Center, or if you are looking at the message on another device that is synced with your account but hasn't been refreshed yet. Sometimes, backups (iCloud or iTunes/Finder) done before the text was unsent might have it. Bu, once the message is unsent, synced, and deleted, it is gone forever.

Unsent messages are usually lost on an iPhone after deletion or being unsent on applications such as Messages or third-party applications. Other apps can display an alert that a message has been deleted, but not the text. In order to prevent the loss of valuable information, it is advisable to save conversations where necessary. Another consideration with deleted or unsent messages is respect of privacy.
