Is Reddit safe for kids?

My child has started using Reddit, and I’m not sure if it’s a safe platform for him. Can someone explain how Reddit works and whether it’s appropriate for kids or teens? I’d like to know about any risks, types of content they might come across, and what parents can do to make it safer.

Reddit is not fully safe for kids, especially younger ones. While it has helpful communities, it also contains NSFW (adult) content, unmoderated discussions, and anonymous users, which can expose kids to inappropriate material. Parents should be cautious—enable content filters, monitor usage, and guide teens on which communities (subreddits) are appropriate. For younger children, it’s generally better to avoid Reddit altogether.
