I’ve seen “fwiw” used in chats and comments, but I’m not sure what it actually means. It seems like people use it while giving opinions. Can someone explain the “fwiw meaning” and share when it’s appropriate to use it in conversations?

“FWIW” stands for “For What It’s Worth.” It is an abbreviation commonly used in casual communication, especially in virtual communication like emails, social media, etc. People prefer using this abbreviation to convey an opinion or suggestion without being too assertive or forceful. It is usually employed to show that they are providing information, whether it is useful or not, and it is up to the receiver to judge its importance. For example, a person can say, “FWIW, I think this is a better option,” in a casual conversation.

E.g. a person may say, FWIW, I believe that film was fantastic. It makes the statement less harsh, demonstrating that the speaker is aware that his or her opinion might not hold a lot of weight yet, he or she would like to express it in a polite way.
