What does HY mean in text messages?

I recently saw someone reply with HY in a chat conversation, and I wasn’t sure what it meant. At first I thought it might mean Hi, but someone told me it can also stand for Hell Yes. I’m a bit confused about when people use it and what the correct meaning is. Can someone explain what does HY mean in texting and how it’s usually used in conversations? Any examples would help.

In many text conversations, HY is used as a short form of Hell Yes. People send it when they strongly agree with something or feel excited about an idea. For example, if a friend asks, Do you want to go out tonight? Replying with HY! shows enthusiasm and a clear yes. It’s usually used in casual chats, social media messages, or group conversations where quick responses are common.

Sometimes HY is simply used as a quick greeting, similar to writing Hi or Hey. In fast typing, especially on phones or in online chats, people might type HY to start a conversation. For example, someone might message HY, how are you? as a friendly way to begin chatting. The meaning usually depends on the context of the conversation.
