I’ve noticed my child using the term NGL in messages and social media, but I’m not sure what it means. Can someone explain what NGL stands for and how it’s typically used by kids or teens? I’d like to understand these slang terms better so I can keep up with my child’s online communication.

The meaning of “NGL” is “Not Gonna Lie.” This phrase is usually employed in texts and on social media to begin the expression of an opinion or a confession. Example: “NGL, I didn’t really like that movie.” While there’s nothing to be alarmed by as far as this particular phrase goes, it is still advisable for parents to stay aware of teenage slang usage and communication habits. It is always important to have an open dialogue with teenagers in order to maintain the connection between parent and child, even when interacting online.

NGL is an abbreviation that means Not Gonna Lie and is often used in a chat to tell the truth before giving an opinion. It might not seem to be harmful, but it is also associated with the anonymous messaging application NGL App, where people are sent anonymous messages. This may occasionally result in cyberbullying or indecent material. Parents ought to know and keep watch over the usage of such sites by teens.
