What is Rednote and how can parents keep kids safe while using it?

I’ve heard about Rednote recently, and I’m not sure what it is or how it works. Since my kids are active online, I want to understand what Rednote is and whether it’s safe for them. Are there any parental controls or safety tips for monitoring its use? Any advice would be appreciated!

Rednote is basically a social/content-sharing app (similar to TikTok/Instagram) where users post short videos, images, and lifestyle content, and like any such platform it can expose kids to strangers or inappropriate posts, so parents should treat it like other social apps, keep accounts private, turn off location sharing, limit screen time, and have regular chats about what they’re seeing and who they interact with; I’d also suggest checking the app occasionally (not spying, just staying aware) because that balance usually works better than strict bans.

Parents can share location on Android using apps like Google Family Link for full parental tracking, Google Maps for simple live location sharing, or Life360 for added safety features like alerts and driving reports.

RedNote (also called Xiaohongshu) is a social media platform where users share photos, videos, and lifestyle content like fashion and travel. While it can be fun, it’s not completely safe for kids because they may see inappropriate content or interact with strangers. Parents should make sure accounts are private, talk to kids about online safety, and guide their usage—making it more suitable for teens rather than younger children.

RedNote is a social platform for sharing short videos and messages. Parents can keep kids safe by enabling privacy settings, monitoring activity, limiting screen time, teaching online safety, and ensuring kids don’t share personal information or interact with strangers.
