What is Samsung Messages app and is it safe for kids to use?

My child is using a Samsung phone, and I noticed an app called Samsung Messages. Can someone explain what the Samsung Messages app is and how it works? From what I understand, it’s the default texting app on many Samsung devices that lets users send SMS and multimedia messages like photos and videos. I’d also like to know if it’s safe for kids, and if there are any privacy settings, spam filters, or parental controls available? I recently heard it might be getting replaced by another app, so should parents switch to something else instead? Any advice would be helpful!

Samsung Messages is the default texting app on Samsung phones that allows users to send and receive SMS and texts, photos, and videos. It is generally safe as a basic, built-in app, but it does not include strong parental controls or content filtering. This means kids can still receive messages from unknown numbers or be exposed to spam or inappropriate content. Overall, it is suitable for teens with parental guidance, but younger kids should use it with supervision or alongside parental control tools.
