Does private browsing really keep your activity completely hidden?

Hi everyone, I’ve been using private browsing mode on browsers like Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, but I’m not sure how private it actually is. I understand it doesn’t save history or cookies, but can websites, internet providers, or apps still track what you do? Is private browsing enough for real privacy, or should other tools be used as well? Looking for a clear and simple explanation!

No, it just doesn't save your history and cookies; your internet service provider can still see what websites you visit.

Incognito in Google Chrome or Private Mode in Mozilla Firefox is such as private browsing, which does not provide total invisibility over the Internet. It will just make your device not save any history, cookies, and form information locally. The use of the internet can also be monitored by your internet provider, employer or websites. To have a higher level of privacy, individuals employ VPNs or secure browsers and even then, they do not assure complete anonymity on the internet.

No, private browsing doesn’t make you completely anonymous. It hides history locally but your ISP, websites, employer, and trackers can still see activity, IP address, and behavior across the internet.

No, there is no complete concealment of activity in private browsing. It primarily averts storing of history, cookies and form data in your devices by your browser. Nevertheless, internet service provider, employer, school, and sites you visit will still be able to track you. To have complete privacy, one requires other tools, such as a VPN.

Private browsing (Incognito mode) does not keep your activity completely hidden. It prevents your browser from saving history, cookies, and form data on your device. However, your internet service provider, school/work network, and websites can still see your activity. It also doesn’t hide your IP address. For more privacy, additional tools like VPNs are needed.

No, private browsing isn’t fully hidden.
In modes like Incognito in Google Chrome, it only:
  • Stops saving history and cookies on your device
But it still:
  • Shows your activity to websites, your ISP, and networks

Private browsing, also called Incognito mode, does not completely hide your activities. It only prevents your browser from storing your history, cookies, and data entered into forms on your device after the session is over. But your internet service provider, your workplace internet, your school internet, and the sites you visit can still track your activities. Your IP address is still visible to them, and your downloads and bookmarks will still be stored. So, to completely protect your privacy, you can try using VPNs and other browsers.
