How to delete Telegram account safely for my child?

My child has been using Telegram, but I’m thinking it might be better to remove the account for safety reasons. Can someone explain how to delete Telegram account step by step? I also want to make sure all data is removed properly and if there’s anything parents should check before deleting the account.

  • Go to Telegram account deletion page
  • Enter the child’s phone number
  • Enter the verification code
  • Click Delete Account → confirm
Use Telegram’s official deletion page and verify with the phone number.

To delete a Telegram account:
  1. Go to the official Telegram Deactivation page (you can’t do it from the app)
  2. Enter your child’s phone number
  3. Enter the confirmation code sent to Telegram
  4. Click “Delete Account” and confirm

Everything gets wiped—messages, contacts, and groups. But keep in mind, if they sign up again with the same number, it starts fresh. So deletion is effective, but not a permanent block unless you monitor reinstallation.

A few extra precautions:
  • Enable two-step verification before deletion (prevents misuse during process)
  • Remove the account from all devices
  • Ask your child to leave sensitive groups manually
  • Backup anything important (if needed)

I deleted my son’s account last year. The process was quick, but I also set up app restrictions afterward so he couldn’t reinstall it without permission. That made a big difference.

Just remember—deleting the account doesn’t erase screenshots or messages others may have saved. It removes your child’s presence, but not necessarily everything shared.

To remove the account of a child in Telegram, go to the official deactivation page, enter the registered phone number and verify through OTP. Any important chats or media should be copied before being deleted. Always make sure that your child disables all the devices. Once deleted, the account and data is deleted forever. Discuss online safety and reason behind deleting the account with your child to foster awareness and trust.
