How to Screen Record on Android for Monitoring My Child’s Activity?

Hi parents, I’m trying to figure out how to screen record on Android devices. My child recently got a new phone, and I want to understand how screen recording works — both for learning purposes and to know what features are available. Is screen recording built into all Android phones, or do I need a separate app? Any simple step-by-step guidance would really help.

Most phones with Android 11 or higher have it built-in. Just swipe down the notification shade twice and look for the "Screen Record" icon. If it’s not there, tap the "Edit" pencil to add it to your quick tiles.

Most Android phones have a built-in screen recorder. Swipe down from the top to open Quick Settings, tap Screen Record, choose whether to record audio, then tap Start. To stop, tap the notification bar. For ongoing monitoring, use parental control apps like Google Family Link, which offer safer, legal supervision features instead of constant recording.

To screen record on Android, swipe down from the top of the screen and tap Screen Record in Quick Settings (you may need to add it first). Choose whether to record audio, then tap Start. To monitor your child’s activity more effectively, consider using Google Family Link, which offers parental controls and activity reports instead of manual screen recording.
