What Does the Green Dot on Snapchat Mean on My Child’s Account?

Hi everyone, I recently noticed a green dot on Snapchat next to some usernames on my child’s account, and I’m not sure what it means. Does the green dot on Snapchat indicate that someone is currently active, or does it show something else? I’m trying to better understand the app so I can guide my teen about online safety. Any clarification from experienced parents would be appreciated.

It’s just an "Activity Indicator." The green dot on Snapchat means they were active on the app recently, but not necessarily in a specific chat.

On Snapchat, a green dot is the activity indicator showing the account was recently active on the app (usually within the past few minutes to up to about 24 hours), not necessarily that your child is currently online at that exact moment. It can be turned off in privacy settings to hide this status.

On Snapchat, the green dot means the user is currently active or was recently active on the app. It appears next to a profile to show that the person is online or has recently used Snapchat.

On Snapchat, the green dot indicates that a user is currently active or recently active on the app. It appears next to a friend’s profile in places like the Add Friends or chat section. For parents, it simply shows when a child may be using Snapchat, helping them understand their online activity and screen time.

Parents should know this feature helps friends see activity status but doesn’t reveal exactly what the child is doing

The green dot is just an activity indicator. It means your child has been active on Snapchat recently or is currently using the app—it doesn’t mean they’re chatting with someone specific.

From a parenting perspective, the dot itself isn’t risky. However, it does confirm your child is actively using the app, so screen time and contacts are worth keeping an eye on.
